Plagiarism Is Corruption

 Plagiarism Is Corruption
By Fahrus Zaman Fadhly, M.Pd
Wasekjen of Alumni Association of Indonesian Education University (UPI IKA) and lecturer od Kuningan University (UNIKU)
In the beginning of March 2012 seems so terrible for our education. Early morning of 1st March 2012, Siliwangi was trembled. Pikiran Rakyat wrote on the first page: “Three candidates of professors of UPI is plagiarist” (Thursday, 1/3). The alumni of UPI, the Sekjen of International – Indonesia Transparency, Teten Masduki explain that “.... there’s souldn’t be a crime in the college because it could be stained  the world of education. The suspects have to be removed. Moreover, it’s done by the professor candidates,” (Pikiran Rakyat, 2/3).
This embarassing news was spreading in to the various social network sites immediately. This plagiarism was critisized by the most people because it destroyed the credibility of the education. Furthermore, the hundred thousands of the alumni of UPI were also stained. One of them expounded that the only way to reestablish the image and prestige of UPI was should remove them from where they’re teaching. The administration sanction such as the degradation of the academic or functionally, is not longer enough, futhermore it would manure the plagiarism action.
Plagiarism was also happened in the other universities such as ITB, UI, UNPAR, Univesitas Negeri Riau, and Universitas Gorontalo. The suspects were generally dishonorably discharged from their almamater, if they’re the candidates of the professor: their position would be cancelled, and the other academic degrees, as well as they would be dismissed of their position structurally. There’s 21 PTN and PTS under the Kopertis (Koordinator Perguruan Tinggi Swasta) control that get involved in this case. The Universities’ General Director has sent a letter to the universities in the list of cases.
Plagiarist = Corruptor
Plagiarism is actually a corruption action in the academic world. This is an academic crime which is fundamentally able to destroy the honesty, objectivity, justice, authenticity and the truth as the main pillar of the scientific institutions and research center. In the college, this is can be included into an extraordinary crime, as the same as the corruption in the politic. Therefore, the suspects should get the heavy punishment so that will be a deterrent effect. In contrast, if the government uses the light punishment, the plagiarism will be significantly increased.
There are fundamental in common beetween plagiarism and corruption : taking the property of others illegally (stealing). Nevertheless, there are 2 aspects in differences. Firstly, the material that is taken/ stolen. Secondly, how’s the suspects’ attitude after they did the crimes. The material which is stolen in the corruption is mostly in money form and it’s concealed in order to keep it latent from the others. Likewise, mostly the corruption is done in money laundry models. Meanwhile, the material which is stolen in the plagiarism is in the form of scientific paper or fictions of others. However, plagiarism is much more dangerous rather than corruption. Since the suspects demonstratively declare that it’s their own work which is published in scientific journal or in book form after they did a plagiarism while it’s belong to the others.
The shortcut culture, instant and the laziness has triggered the cases of the three candidates of professors above. The creativity which is essentially will lead us in to the authenticity, confined by the way of thinking to get the “welfare” illegally, easy and reckless, in order to get the worthy label as a great teacher. In addition, the subvention of being a professor is up to more than Rp. 13 Million a month, is become a great temptation for every lecturer to grasp it quickly.
The values of the honesty is should be given by the lecturer in order to modeled, on the contrary, they did stole something which is belongs to the others. Since there’s nothing that can be modeled from them as a plagiarist, so they are no longer permitted to teach anymore. Thus, the plagiarist is should be given the maximum penalty such as disreputably discharged, removed their academic title and stripped from any structural position. Subsequently, the students and the others lecturers would be avoiding plagiarism since they considered this action as the contemptible action.
Academic sanction and credibility
According to Permendiknas No. 17/ 2010, the 1st Article of the 1st Paragraph, plagiarism is the action which is citing in part or in the whole of the work and/ or other’s scientific works that admitted as their own without stating the source appropriately and sufficiently, in order to gain the credit or values to a scientific works.  In the 4th paragraph of Permendiknas, stated that all of the universities in Indonesia should take the repressive action by penalizing the plagiarist in order to reestablish the credibility of the universities.
In order to reestablish the academic credibility in universities depends on the level of the plagiarism that has been done by the plagiarist, could be the mildest sanction to the most severe one. In the 12th article of the 3rd paragraph, Permendiknas No.17/2010 said that the sanction for the lecturers, researchers and the academic staffs who are convicted of plagiarism can be in the form of warning, written warning, the suspension of their subventions, demotion of the academic position or functional, revocation of their nomination as a great teacher/ professor/ the expert of the main researchers, discharge respectfully or disrespectfully as a lecturer/ researcher/ academic staff, or the cancellation of the certificate which is obtained from their universities. Nonetheless, if the plagiarism is done by the professor, the sanction will be given by the Minister or the authorized officer in the form of the dismissal their title.
The plagiarism practice can be prevented in many ways. There are, firstly, uploading the thesis in to the internet. As the mentor, promoter or a peer group that promoted someone to be a bachelors/ master degree/ doctor or professor should have the appropriate device to do crosscheck in the internet. So that they wouldn’t be doing a plagiarism since the mentors have been given the guidance as well.
Secondly, the maximum penalties are also helpful in the deterrent effect to the plagiarist, so that someone can’t steal any other’s work easily. In addition, the students of S1, S2 and S3 are demanded to write a summary of their thesis and dissertation in peer reviewed scientific journals by DIKTI which is help them to write the scientific papers. Although these appeal, on the other hand, also encouraged the new style of the plagiarism or mostly known as “jurnal bodong”. This occurs as a result of the demanded obligation and the limited media of the scientific publication compared to the number of the students.
Thirdly, the campaign of anti-cheating and plagiarism should be more enthusiastic done by the leader of the universities among the students and the lecturers. To build the intellectual asceticism in the students’ environments, therefore the honest culture and avoiding the plagiarism action is the key point. This would be happened if the government uses the maximum penalty for those suspects. In the plagiarism cases in UPI for example, the academic senate should convene them openly, what’s their fault, whose scientific works that is plagiarized and which scientific journal publisher that published it.
Fourthly, for the newbies that entered the orientation period, the dangers of plagiarism and the sanctions that will be given to the suspects should be described to them as early as possible. Through various ways, I suppose, the practice of the plagiarism will be significantly decreased. However, when the plagiarism is done by the leader of the universities, demand for getting the mildest penalty, so this is the key point of the problems indeed: the damage in the universities is happened because of the corruptive and manipulative actions that have been done by the leaders. Wallahu’alam.

The analysis of short story girl by o henry 1. the point of view             The point of view that used in this short story is the 3rd person point of view and the dramatic. The third point of view because the writer mention the name of the characters in the short stories like: “......... robbins, fifty, something of an overweight beau, and addicted to first nights.... and Hartley, twenty-nine, serious, thin, good-looking, nervous.......” Beside that, the writer also using a noun and pronoun to tell the story to the reader like : “.... a man with an air of mistery came in the door and went up to Hartley....”             Beside that the dramatic point of view, we can see that from the way the writer tells the story and using the scene of the story like the real situation in life. On the other hand, the writer also tells us abt the problem taht might be always found in our life, like looking for the nany or the cook for their house. Which is not always easy to find the good

ASSESSING SPEAKING

ASSESSING SPEAKING      There are four categories of listening performance assessment tasks. A similar taxonomy emerges for oral production. Imitative      At one end of a continuum of types of speaking performance is the ability to simply parrot back (imitate) a word or phrase or possibly a sentence. While this is a purely phonetic level of oral production, a number of prosodic, lexical, and grammatical properties of language may be included in the criterion performance .      We are interested only in what is traditionally labeled”pronunciation” no inferences are made about the test takers ability to understand or convey meaning or to participate in an interactive conversation. The only role of listening here is in the short-term storage of a prompt, just long enough to allow the speaker to retain the short stretch of language that must be imitated. Intensive      A second type of speaking frequently employed in assessment contexts is the production of short streches of oral language
